He intends to stop. I plan on contacting the store at some point in the future to see if their policy is in place. If they report back to me that their policy has changed, then I’ll let everyone know on my own blog. But I firmly believe in the concept of feedback – for myself and others. I like it when people tell me what I’m doing wrong so that I can fix it (I also like it when they tell me what I’m doing right.) The best way for us men to handle this situation is to provide feedback for why any of us aren’t going to shop at B&N. We aren’t shopping for a reason *and we should communicate that reason to them*.

Certainly I won’t be shopping at that chain anymore myself. And that’s the point – as rational, strategic guys we need to hit these things where they hurt without making the evil system we’re fighting stronger. Getting the tacit policy changed or getting discounts on shopping or having a silly clerk or manager fired or transferred won’t make any real difference. Tainting their public image or hitting them right in the pocketbook will.

See above. I agree. The sad truth, though, is that this isn’t about systematic misandry within just B&N. This could very well take place at any other business, and I’m sure it does. B&N just happens to be the one who got caught in this instance.
